Next Steps is an innovative competition-led project which gives people aged over 16, and living in Carmarthenshire, the chance to land a two-year construction apprenticeship.

It was launched by Constructing Carmarthenshire Together partners in 2010, and has already resulted in two people being employed as apprentices with Framework contractors Lloyd and Gravell Ltd.

The competition is run annually throughout the summer months, and gives six shortlisted candidates the chance to work on-site to learn basic skills in trades including carpentry, plastering and brick-laying. Runners-up who impress during the competition process are offered places on Pathways to Apprenticeship, Shared Apprenticeship or traditional apprenticeship schemes.
