Carmarthenshire County Council believes it is the first authority in the UK to deliver a training and education scheme tailored specifically to higher-level learners and tradesmen.
Building Cadetships offer a unique chance for people already working in the construction industry, who wish to pursue a career at management-level.
Cadetships were first developed in Australia, and were brought to the UK by Carmarthenshire County Council in 2009. It is now run with Constructing Carmarthenshire Together partners.
Six people have since been recruited on to the scheme, to study for a foundation degree at the same time as benefitting from industry placements in the local private sector. Two Cadets have since been appointed as Building Inspectors with the local authority.
